Every Colnago C64 build is something special, and always as much of a pleasure to work on as it is to own, but sometimes one really stands out...
It always feels like I'm making someone's dream come true when I build a C64, and each one represents the fulfilment of a long held ambition for its new owner: the ambition to own the best bike they can, to fulfil a promise they may have made to themselves many years ago.
And I've been lucky to have worked on half a dozen over recent months, all unique, all special, but this one was a particular joy. The factory custom paint scheme is super-subtle but does a great job of highlighting the different metallic finishes on the SRAM Red eTap AXS groupset, and while it's not flashy or over-the-top it gave me a real "yep, you got that right" moment when the build came together.
Wheels are Roval CL50 Rapide, giving a nice balance between aerodynamics and weight and visually well proportioned with the rest of the bike, and the S-Works bars also lean towards a subtle Specialized vibe that I kinda like. No doubt some folk will jump up and down about Yank kit "desecrating" an Italian frame, but my answer is that you should always build your bike in your way. And if it upsets the purists, that's a bonus! Seriously though, it's all really fine-performing gear, which should be the name of the game, whatever flag it bears.
